Chlorhexidine Gluconate 20% Solution USP is a broad spectrum bacteriostatis antiseptic agent, oral care agent, disinfectant, cosmetic biocide, and preservative. It is very effective against plaque, oral flora including Candida and is active against gram-positive and gram- negative organisms, facultative anaerobes, aerobes, and yeast. It can be used in antiseptic soap, mouthwash that fights plaque, disinfecting wounds and burns, vaginal flushing, hair dyes and bleaches, makeup, and other skin and hair care products.
Chlorhexidine is used in disinfectants (disinfection of the skin and hands), cosmetics (additive to creams, toothpaste, deodorants, and antiperspirants), and pharmaceutical products (preservative in eye drops, active substance in wound dressings and antiseptic mouthwashes).

Triclosan is an antibacterial and antifungal agent. It is a polychloro phenoxy phenol.It is a white powdered solid with a slight aromatic/phenolic odor. It is a chlorinated aromatic compound that has functional groups representative of both ethersand phenols. Phenols often show antibacterial properties. Triclosan is only slightly soluble in water, but soluble in ethanol, methanol, diethyl ether, and strongly basic solutions.
Triclosan is present in soaps (0.10-1.00%), deodorants, toothpastes, mouth washes, and cleaning supplies, and is incorporated into an increasing number of consumer products, such as kitchen utensils, toys, bedding, socks, and trash bags. Its also found in the health care setting in surgical scrubs and personnel handwashes. Triclosan has been shown to be effective in reducing and controlling bacterial contamination on the hands and on treated products.
Triclosan is used mainly in antiperspirants/deodorants, cleansers, and hand sanitizers as a preservative and an anti-bacterial agent. In addition to cosmetics, triclosan is also used as an antibacterial agent in laundry detergent, facial tissues, and antiseptics for wounds, as well as a preservative to resist bacteria, fungus, mildew and odors in other household products that are sometimes advertized as "anti-bacterial." These products include garbage bags, toys, linens, mattresses, toilet fixtures, clothing, furniture fabric, and paints. Triclosan also has medical applications. Triclosan also has been employed as an effective selective agent in molecular cloning.

Considerable data exists which provides a measure of the intrinsic anti-microbial activity of ACUROSIL IB, generated via European suspension test protocols relevant to application in Food, Industrial, Domestic and Institutional Hygiene.
Its activity had been further demonstrated under conditions representative of practical use, and a range of use concentrations is provided in Table 3. However, it is recommended that fiels tests under practical conditions be undertaken to determine the most cost-effective dose for your application.
